It’s official – you can now give your run an ultra-cushioned boost, as the new adidas Ultra BOOST X in new colours hit selected stores today.
In case you weren’t already convinced that these shoes are going to be your next go-to running shoe, we had a chat with one of our TAF team runners to give us their thoughts on this highly-anticipated release from adidas.

Best suited for: A neutral foot
Excellent for: road running, active recovery, walking & the gym
What is the BEST feature of the adidas Ultra BOOST X?
The floating arch. This is the part of the shoe that hugs your foot, and isn’t actually connected to the midsole. This is a feature that I’ve only ever seen in adidas shoes. I love it because it feels so supportive and snug around my foot. Previously I’ve worn the Adidas Pure BOOST X with this feature, I find that it felt a little more rigid in that style. In the Ultra BOOST X, however, I’ve had absolutely no discomfort and love this feature.
How does the Ultra BOOST X differ from other shoes you’ve worn?
The Ultra BOOST X feels so comfortable. The glove-like fit around the foot is hard to describe, and the Boost midsole feels incredibly plush. I got these shoes just before a long weekend and I’m not exaggerating when I say I hardly took them off! They feel amazing. It really is something you need to try on and experience for yourself.
What kind of runs do you generally wear the Ultra BOOST X for?
I’ve been wearing the Ultra BOOST X for light and short training runs (4-5k) and gym workouts. It feels great and looks so good. I’ve also been wearing this shoe on social occasions, scenic walks and pretty much everywhere I’ve been since I got them!
How does the Ultra BOOST X fit?
a) Any hotspots?
Absolutely none, I took these out of the box and have literally struggled to take them off.
b) The upper?
The upper is a stretchy mesh like fabric that hugs the foot, its super comfortable.
c) The sizing?
True to size, perhaps even a slightly smaller fit than what I am used to with adidas. I usually find adidas runs a little larger, which is not the case with the Ultra BOOST X.
d) Other key features of the fit?
As mentioned earlier, the floating arch is a main feature of this shoe. It adapts and supports the foot where you need it most. It also features an adaptive stretch web outsole which is incredibly flexible and ensures that the shoe provides adequate grip on both wet and dry surfaces. The BOOST midsole provides great energy return, making my running and jumping movements more efficient.
