Best Running Shoes For Marathon Training
What to look for:
Your marathon training running shoes will need to be a combination of many things. As you will be spending most of your time in these shoes, we can’t emphasise durability enough. Finding a pair of running shoes with durable materials such as a full-length carbon rubber outsole is vital to ensuring your shoes last the length of your training.
Directly underneath the foot, TPU based foams generally provide more life than EVA based foams, however, do come with a weight penalty, as TPU based foams is often heavier than EVA foams.
The upper needs to be adaptable, as your feet swell when running. Knitted uppers adapt to your foot shape whist being a good solution to combat the weight penalty that comes with TPU based foams.
It is important to note that what to look for will vary from runner to runner. More experienced marathon runners might opt for less cushioned shoes, as their feet and bodies are more adapted to the additional running load, whereas first time marathon runners might prioritise that extra cushioning to minimise the risk of load-based injuries.
With that being said, here is a list of our favourite marathon training running shoes.
