PE Lessons from home
by Marcus Rix
Have you been noticing that the kids are getting a little bit antsy since they aren’t getting their fix of their favourite PE lessons at school?
We have compiled a list of the best kinds of physical activity in line with helpful PE lessons which you can provide the rug rats from the luxury of your own home!
BEST KINDS OF ACTIVITY
According to the Centre of Disease Control and Prevention, the recommended daily activity for a child averages at about 60 minutes of moderate - vigorous physical exercise. This 60 minutes per day is quite easy being a kid as you are constantly on the move, although as the majority of this is advised to be moderate-vigorous physical activity, it is essential to provide this in the most enjoyable way possible.
Aerobic exercise
This type of exercise is certainly the most beneficial as it works towards full-body strengthening routines, and increases cardiovascular capacity. Anything that gets the heart pumping and the breathing heavier the better!
Muscle Strengthening exercises
Any exercise that includes a combination of running, climbing, stretching and flexing will be beneficial to helping our kid’s muscles develop efficiently. Even a set of basic push ups can work wonders in adding to our daily 60 minute goal.
Bone Strengthening exercises
Bone strengthening exercises such as running or jumping should be included at least 3 times per week when working towards a child’s 60 minutes per day.
Unsure of the difference between moderate-vigorous physical activity? Try following this example - if your child is participating in a game of tag at school for 30 minutes, you would assume this would amount to a more vigorous output as they are performing rapid movements whilst they exert a lot more energy. On the other hand, if they walked a period of 20 minutes home after school, this may be considered moderate activity as this is quite a low strain on the body (e.g. breathing as normal, low heart rate).
