What are Super Shoes?

Traditionally, racing shoes were focused towards being as lightweight as possible with the minimal amount of everything; minimal design, minimal material.

Then along came PEBAX, an extremely lightweight foam that allowed shoes to be able to increase the height/thickness without affecting the weight of the midsole, this in turn allowed space within the midsole to add additional features such as the now famously ‘curved’ carbon fiber plate, creating a lightweight, resilient and compliant midsole, resulting in improved running economy.

What is PEBAX® ’SUPER’ FOAM?

(Compared to a traditional runner with either a TPU or EVA midsole)

Stores more energy

At foot strike, giving the ability to return more of its energy back into the running.

Lighter

Provides a lightweight feel but also allows additional thickness within the midsole, creating this Super Foam & allowing additional space for features (such as a curved Carbon Fiber plate).

Some of our favourites:

Saucony Endorphin Speed 2

This would have to be one of the best super shoes money can buy, this award-winning shoe now entering into it’s second season took the running scene by surprise with it’s lightweight plated midsole. With the combination of the PWRRUN PB midsole and full-length nylon this shoe is super lightweight while maintaining an 8mm heel to toe drop, this not only helps in creating a shoe focused towards optimum speed, but also maintains the comfort so it can be doubled as a lightweight everyday training shoe.

New Balance FuelCell RC Elite

This version 2 in the FuelCell RC Elite series offers some incredible updates from its debut season, with it’s high-rebound FuelCell RC Elite midsole combined with a full-length carbon fiber plate to help promote energy return and propulsion. On top of this it offers a super light durable outsole including a midfoot cut-out, reducing the weight even further (you can even see carbon fiber plate underneath). The most noticeable update is the signature super shoe additional thickness within the midsole, creating an ultra soft ,yet ultra responsive running shoe.

Hoka One One Carbon X2

Less aggressive compared to some other Super shoes, the Hoka One One Carbon 2X offers a gentle transition into this category or for those looking for a shoe to double as a training shoe. Featuring the Carbon Fiber plate designed towards running efficiency and foot stability, the Carbon X2 has the most forgiving ride while featuring a comfortable breathable upper that works for everyone.

Saucony Endorphin Pro 2

With the combination of PWRUN PB peba midsole and Speed Roll, this creates an extremely smooth ride that will carry you forward. The Speed Roll within the midsole really comes into it’s own when the pace is increased, keeping your hips tilted forward helping you maintain a high leg turnover. The Endorphin Pro 2 would be one of the most comfortable within the Super Shoe group, so if you're after a super shoe that can handle the longer distances, the Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 would be it.
